Layer 2 security is often overlooked when designing the overall network security strategy in many organizations. It is the network layer closest to the end user/device which make use of it to send and receive information.

Most of the importance is given to the segment of the network which connects to the Internet, the untrusted network or the WAN(Wide Area Network) which is where all attacks are expected to initiate from.
